The Holy Spirit used David to typify the Christ, that the Christ would be like David in some ways. It is noteworthy that David’s reign over Israel can be separated in this manner, 

The period that David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years (1 King 2.11). 

Jesus died at 33 years of age in Jerusalem, or just outside the city walls. David reigned as king for seven years in Hebron.

Are we to make more of these numbers or not?
