1 Kings 16.15 – Incidental References to the 7-day reign of Zimri

Sevens in the Bible 7 copy

We generally think of seven in the Bible as representing something good. Therefore, in the following instance, I think it is merely incidental that the Bible mentions seven,

In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri had reigned in Tirzah seven days. And the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines (1Ki 16.15).

King Zimri only reigning 7 days, SEVEN DAYS, makes a sad commentary on the spiritual state of Israel during his day, as King Solomon once said,

Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes;
But by a man of understanding and knowledge
Right will be prolonged.
–Proverbs 28.2
