The Lord wanted Israel to work the land six years, but to let it rest, neither sowing nor reaping, during the seventh year.
He knew they would wonder how they would eat,
“And if you say, ‘What shall we eat in the seventh year, since we shall not sow nor gather in our produce?'” (Leviticus 25.20).
He assured them they would have enough to eat,
“Then I will command My blessing on you in the sixth year, and it will bring forth produce enough for three years. And you shall sow in the eighth year, and eat old produce until the ninth year; until its produce comes in, you shall eat of the old harvest” (Leviticus 25.21, 22).
Things like this fill the Bible, for the Lord knows what we need and how we think, and He designed the Scriptures with those things in mind, and He designed the world with the same intentions.
