The Lord had Moses consecrate Aaron and his sons for the work in the tabernacle, and the tabernacle itself and its furnishings all needed consecration. Of the altar the Bible says,

“He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the laver and its base, to consecrate them” (Leviticus 8.11).

Seven times Moses sprinkled the altar with oil, perfectly consecrating the altar for service in the work of God.
