Exodus 24.1, 9, 10 – What seventy elders saw

Seventy, seven tens or ten sevens, was the number of elders of Israel who joined Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu in the mountain of God,

“Now He said to Moses, ‘Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar” (Exodus 24.1).

The text later says they did just that,

“Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity” (Exodus 24.9, 10).

These seventy men, plus the four others, saw a magnificent sight, for they saw the God of Israel.

They had been slaves, and they were then living in a wilderness. Wow! What a change of scenery!

However, Revelation 7 shows a numberless multitude in heaven praising God! May you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and obey Him diligently that you might see what the seventy saw by being included in the multitude that no man can number!
